New certification marks breakthrough in regenerative textile production

With great pride, LOADS Collection announces the launch of the world’s first textile label to carry the Demeter certification. Until now, this independent quality mark was known exclusively within biodynamic food production. For the first time, the label is now being applied to textiles in collaboration with the Demeter International Biodynamic Federation.
This partnership sets a new standard for truly regenerative textile applications in both fashion and interior design.

Two years ago, artist Claudy Jongstra and her son Jesk Jongstra founded LOADS Collection to make non-toxic, plant-based textile dyes more widely accessible. Synthetic dyes account for 20% of global water pollution. In addition, LOADS offers alternatives for European residual wool, 90% of which is currently burned. LOADS’ applications include sofas, curtains, cushions, acoustic panels, and garments.

The Demeter certification is recognized worldwide as a symbol of quality, transparency, and regenerative agriculture.
In September 2025, Demeter was once again rated a top label by Milieu Centraal. Beyond European organic standards, Demeter sets additional requirements concerning nature conservation, soil fertility, and social responsibility. At least 10% of each certified enterprise must be dedicated to supporting biodiversity—for instance through hedgerows, flower strips, tree lines, or other landscape elements.

What makes Demeter-certified textiles truly unique is that all materials originate from a 100% traceable supply chain. All LOADS partners commit to criteria such as collaborating with local communities and developing educational programs, actively contributing to the vitality of both ecosystems and social systems. Both fiber and dye come from natural sources, and the use of rare dye plants, which are hardly cultivated anymore, also helps to enhance biodiversity. The result is a regenerative and closed-loop system. LOADS not only provides an alternative to the harmful textile industry but also actively contributes to the health of people, soil, and planet.

LOADS Collection focuses on reproducible designs to maximize impact, working in collaboration with designers, architects, creators, chefs, cooperatives, and fashion designers. Responsible and ethical production chains are the foundation of LOADS. An independent label such as Demeter ensures transparency, while all “co-creators” are evaluated by an independent committee based on these criteria.

To celebrate this milestone, a short film by Bas Berkhout, supported by Odin Foodcoop, has been released. To create a ripple effect, we invite all like-minded individuals to share this video, helping to spread the story and raise awareness.

During the Dutch Design Week (October 18–28, 2025), LOADS Collection will be present at several locations across Eindhoven: as part of the ROOTS Exhibition at Piet Hein Eek, and at New Order of Fashion on Strijp-S. At both venues, LOADS Collection will also host a talk on October 24.
